Chetak Bridge widening not likely to be completed on time


Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, The work of widening of Chetak Bridge is not likely to be completed on time. Officials said the delay has been caused by non-availability of labourers on account of Ramzan. They also blamed delay in supply of raw material for the delay. The bridge widening project costing Rs 7.50 crore was to be completed by 30 June. The engineers present at the site said the work would take another one-and-half month. Besides the work could be further delayed on account of monsoon. If the rains start by 30 June the work would be delayed even more. Lokesh Verma, Executive Engineer, West Central Railway, said the bridge widening work would be completed within the deadline. He said there is shortage of workers and raw material on account of Ramzan. If the rains start early then there could be delay of few more days, he said.Site engineer Pradip Paul said the work would take another one-and-half month. Meanwhile commuters are facing grave hardship on account of ongoing construction work. As the work is going on both sides of the bridge, the pedestrians have to walk in the middle of the road giving rise to the possibility of accident.
