Cong would waive farmers' loans in 10 days of coming to power in MP: Rahul

Pipaliyamandi (Mandsaur), MP,  Setting the stage for coming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi today announced that his party would waive loans of farmers across the state within 10 days of coming to power. “I want to assure deceased peasants' families who have come here. Soon after the Congress comes to power, you would get justice within 10 days and action would be taken against those who fired gunshots on you,” said Mr Gandhi while addressing Kisan Samridhi Sankalp Rally here. The public meeting was organised on the first anniversary of death of six peasants in police firing in Pipaliyamandi. “The Madhya Pradesh Government opened fire on farmers and killed them exactly a year ago. In the whole country, farmers are today demanding their rights and committing suicides,” he said. “Nonetheless, there is little place for them in the hearts of the Narendra Modi Government and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regimes in the country,” alleged the Gandhi scion. Claiming that the Centre had waived loans to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh crore availed by 15 industrialists in spite of mounting non-performing assets (NPAs), he lamented that loans availed by peasants had not been waived. Reminding that the previous United Progressive Alliance Government had waived loans of farmers to the tune of Rs 70,000 cr within 10 days after a delegation met them, Mr Gandhi said that the track record of the UPA could be relied upon. Later, Congress regimes in Karnataka and Punjab took a similar decision.
