Congress alleges discrepancies in voters’ list for MP by-polls

Agencies, Bhopal Alleging irregularities in the preparation of voters’ list in Kolaras and Mungaoli assembly by-elections, the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today claimed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is working under the pressure of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “In booth-wise review of the electoral list, the Congress found that the name of the same voter – with same photo identity card – is present in lists pertaining to 2-3 polling centres. Likewise, certain voters were registered with different names and ages but same photograph,” MPCC President Arun Yadav told media here. “The number of duplicate voters in the voters’ list – updated on January 25 – is around 8,000 in Kolaras and 12,000 in Mungaoli. A complaint was lodged with the ECI three days earlier but no action has been taken so far,” he said. Mentioning that the Congress found duplicate voters in Kolaras despite the fact that district returning officer did not provide photo voters’ list, Mr Yadav said that several other anomalies are present in the list. He demanded that the voters’ list be revised to ensure free and fair polling on February 24 by-polls.
