Digital India helped fight middlemen, black money syndrome: PM


New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the effective use of technology and Digital India campaign has helped advantages of development programmes reach all sections of society. "Due to technology, railway tickets can be booked online, bills can be paid online...all this brings great convenience. We ensured that the advantages of technology are not restricted to a select few but are there for all sections of society. We strengthened network of Computer Science Centres (CSCs)," Mr Modi said interacting with beneficiaries of the various Digital India efforts. The Prime Minister said the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan has brought in revolutionary transformation in the country. Interacting with beneficiaries, Mr Modi also urged citizens to make more use of BhimApp to make payment for regular shopping in rural areas. Among others, beneficiaries like Misbah Hashmi from Yamuna Nagar in Haryana said, ".....a wide range of Government and other services like banking, insurance and pension related issues can be availed at the local CSC. I am also ensuring more women get access to medical services, they can call doctors". Mr Modi said it is appreciable at every level the common people irrespective of age and caste and sex are showing keen interest to learn new things including taking interest in Digital India. "Rupay card is making revolutionary changes in payment. Rupay card is being used abundantly even abroad. The use of Rupay card indirectly helps country make some income," he said, adding that "everyone cannot go to borders and serve country, even by making use of Rupay card we can serve the national interest". Another beneficiary Jitender Solanki from Gautam Budh Nagar said: "I noticed that in our village, digital literacy is rising due to Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan. Earlier, the elderly were inconvenienced but now pension-related issues are solved through technology". Mr Modi said when he spoke about Digital India, his detractors made fun of him. But the appeal has yielded positive results, Prime Minister said, adding that the effective use of digital mechanism for payment has helped fight black money menace too. "Dalali ko rokne ka kaam, Digital India kar raha hae (Digital India is helping fight the middlemen syndrome in the country)," the Prime Minister said.
