EPCES skill development plan to tone up its work culture: Suresh Prabhu


Agencies, New Delhi Union Commerce and Industry minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday said the proposed scheme of the Export Promotion Council for EOUs & SEZs (EPCES) for skill development of its 18 lakh employees will strengthen the knowledge base of SEZ and EOU workforce and enhance their overall competitiveness. “I am hopeful that this unique scheme would surely go a long way in not just strengthening the knowledge base of SEZ and EOU workforce but also in enhancing their overall competitiveness,” Mr Prabhu said here, while speaking at the EPCES Excellence Award 2015-16. Under the mega scheme, the EPCES will set aside approximately one lakh square metres worth of space at over 200 SEZs for providing incubation of start-ups across seven major SEZ and EOU hubs across the country. Besides, quality training through Certificate courses by EPCES on relevant subjects such as SEZ Act & Rules, Customs Act & Rules, GST Act & Rules and Logistics will also be imparted to its employees under the scheme. Elaborating on the ambitious scheme, Officiating Chairman of EPCES, Dr Vinay Sharma said, “Currently SEZ and EOU are a source of direct employment to 18, 23,451 persons and extending the same spirit, the EPCES, is to soon unveil this path-breaking scheme that would address the sector’s long felt issue of under-skilling through imparting skills for improvement in Skills upgradation and technical know-how of its employees”. On the occasion, the EPCES also released the 12th edition of a comprehensive book titled, “Book of Notifications by Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs,” containing all the updated information, instructions and relevant notification, circulars etc. relating to EOU and SEZ Scheme issued so far by CBEC, CBDT, GST, RBI, DOC, DGFT etc. Those who received Excellence awards include Reliance Industries Ltd, P.C. Jewellers, Hetero Labs, Hewlett Packard, GE BE, Tata International Ltd, DLF Group, CISCO, Oswal, TCS, Gokaldas, Goodrich Aerospace, MothersonSumi, and Oilfield Warehouse.
