Govt to achieve road construction target of 40 km/day this year: Gadkari


New Delhi, Union Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said maximum roads have been built in 2017-18 in comparison to past five years and the pace at which the work is going on, the target of construction of 40 km of roads a day will be achieved this year. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Gadkari said during financial year 2017-18, contracts were given for construction of 17,055 km of roads and 9,829 km roads were completed. He said the construction of most roads in this period has been completed in the past five years. Prior to this, construction work of 8,231 km roads in 2016-17, 6,061 km in 2015-16, 4,410 km in 2014-15 and 4,260 km roads in 2013-14 was completed. He said the target of the Government is to build 40 km of roads per day.The Minister said till now 27 km of roads are being constructed every day and the target of construction of 40 km of roads per day will be achieved this year.
