Bhopal IG Jaideep Prasad on Monday flagged off a helmet awareness rally at Motilal Nehru stadium that marked the start of the 29th Road Safety Week.
The helmet awareness rally began from Motilal Nehru Ground and passed through Roshanpura square, Apex Bank square, Board Office square, Old Jail trisection and culminated at Motilal Nehru Ground. Traffic police have urged the citizens to follow traffic rules and wear helmet while riding a two-wheeler and save oneself from fatal accidents.
The aim of the Road Safety Week is to make the citizens aware about the traffic rules and decrease the number of accidents, deaths and injuries in Bhopal district with stress on better implementation of State Road Safety Policy 2015.
District Collector Sudam Khade while addressing programme at the inauguration of Road Safety Week on Monday said better traffic management is responsibility of every commuter and not of the agencies assigned to manage it. Sudam Khade issued orders of non-refilling of petrol for riders without helmet. BMC would take action along with traffic police and would tow vehicles parked in no-parking zone.
DIG Dharmendra Choudhary said that the slogan would follow religiously ‘Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha’.
IG Bhopal said that the fine imposed by traffic police is not a means of revenue but it is an imposed for breaking traffic rules and disturbing the traffic management.
On the occasion, SP (HQ) Rajesh Chandel, SP (South) Bhopal Rahul Kumar, SP (North) Bhopal Ajay Singh and senior police officials, police personnel and citizens were present.
