Hyderabad girl wins Global soft toy drawing contest


Hyderabad, Eight-year-old Niya George from Hyderabad has been adjudged the National winner of the Global soft toy drawing competition conducted by the IKEA, the Swedish home furnishing retailer, which opened its first store in the country at Hyderabad in August this year. The competition encouraged children (aged up to 12 years) to draw their dream toy on paper and have an once-in-a-lifetime chance for it to be turned into a real toy, IKEA said in a release here on Friday. Out of 15 entries were selected from each country, the final 6 international winning drawings to eventually become a part of the limited edition - 2019 SAGOSKATT collection - a range of soft toys designed by kids, for the kids.As part of IKEA’s global Let’s Play For Change campaign, it donates 100 percent of SAGOSKATT turnover to support children’s rights to play and develop. Into its fifth year, the drawing competition has so far had more than 157,000 kids from all over the world participating. Out of 15 shortlisted Indian entries, 8-year-old girl from Hyderabad, who drew a character called’ Thor’ has been selected by IKEA India for the national winner by online voting. The Indian chapter of the 2018 Soft Toy Drawing Competition was held at the IKEA Hyderabad Store from November 14 to 21, the release said.Every kid participated in the competition would get a participation certificate from IKEA India. All 15 select entries would get a gift bag with IKEA products while the National winner will be given 10,000 Indian Rupees and 6 international winners will receive one soft toy each, created by IKEA, from their own drawings. Announcing the winner, John Achillea, MD Telangana, IKEA India says, We at IKEA love children and recognise the importance of play, not only for children but also for adults. IKEA encourages the creativity within every child and wants them to come forth and participate in this competition. This year Hyderabad joins the global map of IKEA stores and what better than to engage the children of this city in something as creative as this. The winning drawings of 2018 will become a limited collection of 6 soft toys, to help support every child’s right to play and to develop.
