India to send observers to Bangladesh for general elections


New Delhi, India will be deputing a three-member team of observers to Bangladesh for the ensuing general elections to be held on December 30. "We are sending observers to Bangladesh, we got this invitation from the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters here. "They have invited our representatives including also from other countries to witness the elections. From our side we are sending three senior officials," he said. The team of observers has been deputed by the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora."The observers are traveling to Bangladesh from December 28 to 31 as guests of their counterpart organisation in Bangladesh," he said. Mr Kumar said as far as elections in Bangladesh are concerned, India considers it as "internal matter of Bangladesh". "We respect the functioning of democracy in Bangladesh which is a vibrant democracy....It is a close neighbour and a close neighbour and a highly valued partner for India," MEA spokesman said.
