January WPI inflation at 3.1 pc compared to 2.59 pc in Dec

New Delhi,  The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly Wholesale Price Index, stood at 3.1 per cent for January 2020 as compared to 2.59 per cent for the previous month, according to data released by Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday. The WPI inflation stood at 2.76 per cent during January last year.

The rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group decreased to 10.12 per cent in January, 2020 from 11.05 per cent in December 2019.
Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far is 2.50 per cent compared to a buildup rate of 2.49 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Inflation for important commodities / commodity groups is indicated in Annex-1 and Annex-II. The
The index for 'Food Articles' group declined by 1 per cent due to lower price of fruits & vegetables.
The index for ' Non-Food Articles' group declined by 1.4 per cent due to lower price of floriculture.
The index for 'Minerals' group declined by 7.2 per cent due to lower price of manganese ore.
The index for 'Crude Petroleum & Natural Gas' group rose by 2.7 per cent due to higher price of crude petroleum.
The index for Fuel and power rose by 1.4 per cent and for 'Mineral Oils' group rose by 2.5 per cent.

The index for 'Manufacture Of Food Products' group rose by 1.2 per cent and 'Manufacture Of Beverages' group rose by 0.5 per cent.
The index for 'Manufacture Of Tobacco Products' group declined by 1.2 per cent and for 'Manufacture Of Textiles' group by 0.4 per cent.
The index for 'Manufacture Of Wearing Apparel' group declined by 0.8 per cent and for 'Manufacture Of Leather And Related Products' group declined by 0.5 per cent. The index for 'Manufacture Of Paper And Paper Products' group declined by 0.3 per cent while for 'Printing And Reproduction Of Recorded Media ' group rose by 0.8 per cent.

The index for 'Manufacture Of Chemicals And Chemical Products' group rose by 0.1 per cent while for 'Manufacture Of Pharmaceuticals, Medicinal Chemical And Botanical Products' group declined by 0.1 per cent. The index for 'Manufacture Of Electrical Equipment' group rose by 0.2 per cent and for 'Manufacture Of Motor Vehicles, Trailers And Semi-Trailers' group rose by 0.2 per cent. The index for 'Manufacture Of Other Transport Equipment' group rose by 0.3 per cent while for 'Manufacture Of Furniture' group declined by 0.2 per cent .
