New Delhi, Vikramaditya Singh, the son of former Union Minister and ex Rajya Sabha MP Karan Singh, joined the Congress on Thursday. The elder son of Dr Karan Singh, a veteran Congress leader, Vikramaditya Singh, who was a former PDP leader, joined the Congress in the presence of AICC general secretary Ambika Soni and former state CM Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Mr Singh’s induction into the party came after he met Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday morning.Addressing a press conference to announce his entry in the party, senior leader and former J and K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said,’’I am confident that his entry in the party will strengthen the Congress in the state and help to check the BJP in the Jammu region.
Chief of the Jammu and Kashmir PCC GA Mir expressed confidence that Mr Singh will play a significant role in strengthening the Congress.Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said that he was disillusioned with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir as it had failed to fulfill promises made to the people of the state.
Vikramaditya had resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) last year in October alleging that the PDP-BJP alliance had veered away from the vision laid down by late Mufti Mohammed Syed.
The entry of Vikramaditya Singh in the Congress is being seen as a big shot in the arm for the Congress, especially in the Jammu region.
