Katare gets relief from HC, stay on arrest till March 16


Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal IIn a major relief to Congress MLA Hemant Katare, Jabalpur bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court (MPHC) on Tuesday stayed his arrest till March 16. The next hearing has been scheduled for March 16. The court has summoned the case diary and all the investigating officials in the case. The girl, who was caught by the crime branch on charge of blackmailing Katare and later charged Katare of raping her, has filed a petition praying for early arrest of the MLA, while the MLA has sought quashing of both FIRs against him — one filed by the girl accusing him of rape and another by her mother charging him with abduction and illegal confinement. Both the petitions were heard on Tuesday. The court has summoned the case diary of the case registered at the Mahila Thana and Bajaria police station. The court has also summoned all the investigating officials in the case. During the hearing, the girl, and her mother were also present in the court. The court asked if all the evidence in the case, including the videos had been examined. The government advocate said the case against the MLA was registered after examining g all the evidence thoroughly. Earlier, the girl had sent an application to DIG, Bhopal from jail while she was in judicial custody, accusing the Congress MLA of rape. On the basis of the application, an FIR was lodged against Katare at Mahila Thana on the charge of rape. Another FIR was lodged by the girl’s mother at Bajaria police station charging Katare with illegal confinement and rape. More than two weeks after the FIRs were lodged against Katare, cops had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on his arrest. His counsel Priyanshu Jain, the same day moved two separate petitions seeking quashing of both the FIRs and stay on Katare’s arrest.

Allegations baseless: ASP Rashmi Mishra

ASP Crime Branch Rashmi Mishra has recorded her statement before investigating agency SIT. She said all the allegations against her were baseless. She said all the action was taken as per the law. The girl had accused the ASP of shielding Katare.
