Kumaraswamy completes 100 days as CM; meets Rahul Gandhi


New Delhi, The day he completed 100 days as Chief Minister amid threat to the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday met Congress President Rahul Gandhi here. “I am here to pay my regards to Mr Gandhi as I have completed 100 days as Chief Minister. The Congress president is happy with the way the government is running”, said Mr Kumaraswamy after the meeting. Mr Kumaraswamy said he requested the Congress president to take early decision on Cabinet expansion and appointment of Chairman of Corporation/Boards. Currently Congress has 16 and JD(S) has 10 Ministers including the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.Congress’s three and JD(S) one Ministerial slots are vacant and official sources said that the appointments will take place soon. The meeting between the two leaders was held a day before the crucial JD(S)-Congress Coordination Committee, led by former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah, to resolve differences between the two parties. Asked about Mr Siddaramaiah’s recent statement that he wanted to become the Chief Minister, the Karnataka Chief Minister responded that “He is a leader, if he express desire to become the Chief Minister, what is wrong in it?” “The JD(S)- Congress government is secure under the leadership of Siddarmaiah. He is necessary for the coalition government to run safety,”, Mr Kumaraswamy further said. The Chief Minister added that Mr Siddaramaih has already given a clarification that he would become the Chief Minister after the next election, if people wishes. He said the coalition government is functioning on the expectations of the people and that his goal is to fulfill it in the coming days. “The government has already announced farm loan waiver and directed officials to implement the budget proposals”, Mr Kumaraswamy said. The Chief Minister also said that Karnataka has set a record in revenue collection under his regime. Mr Kumaraswamy is also scheduled to meet President Ramnath Kovind and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to seek relief for flood-hit Kodagu in Karnataka.
