MoS Finance Radhakrishnan moves Privilege Motion against Kerala cop Yathish in LS

New Delhi, Union Minister of State for Finance Pon Radhakrishnan on Wednesday moved privilege motion against IPS officer Yathish Chandra in Kerala for his alleged 'misconduct' when the Minister had visited Sabarimala in November. The Minister said he had gone to Sabarimala on November 21 along with four other devotees and they were stopped 22 km away from the complex. 'I was told that the private vehicles were not allowed to go beyond that point and pilgrims were forced to take government buses,' he said during Zero Hour amid the din. Mr Radhakrishnan, who represents Kanyakumari parliamentary constituency in Tamil Nadu, said he was witness to the 'pain and anguish of the pilgrims including senior citizens and children'. He said some devotees were forced to take government buses but there were not many.'I enquired the police about the reason only for allowing government buses and not private buses...there were no answers,' he maintained. Mr Radhakrishnan said IPS officer Yathish Chandra intervened and informed him that private buses would not be allowed ' because there is landslide and also there was congestion'. 'I asked him how government buses were allowed and there was no congestion...there was no proper response,' he said. The minister maintained instead of responding to him, the police officer asked whether the minister will take the 'responsibility' if something untoward happens. 'I construe this as a mark of disrespect to an elected representative of this House,' said the 66-year old only BJP member from Tamil Nadu. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said she will look into the matter.
