Long back the Madhya Pradesh has earned the title of being “Soya State” of India for highest production of soyabean in the state. Now Madhya Pradesh has earned the another title of being “Wheat State” of India for unprecedented increase of wheat production in the State. Some years back it was in 4th position in wheat production.
The third was Uttar Pradesh, second Haryana and first was Punjab, now Madhya Pradesh is number one.The Madhya Pradesh is getting Central Government’s prestigious Krishi Karman Award for rapid and constant increase in wheat production for the last five years successively from the year 2011-12.
For the fifth year in 2015-16 the Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi presented this Krishi Award to the Chief Minister Mr.Shivraj Singh Chouhan with a citation and cash award of Rs.2 crores.
In the year 2004-05 the wheat production of the state was 74 lakh metric tonnes and now in 2016-17 it has gone upto 220 lakh metric tonnes. The wheat productivity per hectares have increased from 19 quintal in 2004-05 to 35 quintal per hectares in 2016-17. The Sharbati variety of wheat is in high demand in the country and abroad also.
