nCoV India : Cases near 25000-mark, death toll mounts to 779

New Delhi, (UNI)

The total number of novel coronavirus cases in India are set to touch the grim milestone of 25000 as infections on Saturday reached 24942.

The death toll has now mounted to 779 with 61 deaths in past 36 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family welfare data, there is an improvement in the number of cured and discharged cases with the figure for now resting at 5201.

The recovery rate of people infected with this virus has increased to 20.66 per cent while the death rate is around 3.1 per cent. Active COVID cases in the country at present stand at 18,953.

Maharashtra continues to be at top spot among the maximum number of coronavirus cases in the country. The state has so far witnessed 301 fatalities. Capital Delhi which is on third spot in number of cases is doing well to contain the virus. The city has maintained one of the best recovery rates in the country with 857 patients cured and discharged from the hospital till date.

Keeping in view several factors including a promise made to ease restrictions while enforcing Lockdown 2.0 and giving a push to battered economy, the Ministry of Home Affair in a late night order on Friday eased some lockdown restrictions by allowing few shops to operate in the non containment zones.
