New Traffic Law


Like ever growing population the country facing the grave problem of ever increasing vehicles and accidents on roads. The Union Road Transport Minister Mr.Nitin Gadkari has taken up the matter very seriously. He has moved the Bill in the Lok SAbha seeking 88 amendments in the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988. The sharp increase in penalty and fines are being provided for the offences of driving without license, without seat belt and helmets, use mobile while driving, speeding etc. In hit and run cases the fine is being increased from Rs.25,000 to Rs.2 lakh, driving by under-age his or her guardians and the vehicle owner would be held responsible and punished. The another big problem that has come in driving or walking is the stunt act by taking over a person or vehicle from coming the back side just very close to him. The stunt persons feel pride in it. Due to such stunt every day many accidents are taking place. Under the traffic rule if there is moving person or vehicle he should be taken from the back side. Mr.Gadkari expressed the confidence that by new legal measures there would be reduction the number of accidents. Mr.Gadkari is the first minister who have taken up development of waterways on over big rivers. So far the river transport are local. The Modi Government has also take up “Sagarmala” sea project on our lengthy sea coast on the three sides of the country. Mr.Gadkari revealed that 30 per cent driving license in the country were fake document. He is also said that it was he who introduced the system toll tax on road. To have good roads there should be permanent toll tax in reduced form. The Government is spending the money collected on toll tax as the construction of rural and hill areas roads. There are number of vehicles operating without number plates. Such vehicles should not be allowed to ply on roads but it is going on. The size and shape of number plates are prescribed and fixed on the Motor Vehicles Act. But there are large number of vehicles having different types of number plates not on the prescribed form. In the last 5 years 40,000 kilometers National Highway were constructed. Before BJP Government at the Centre 403 road projects of Rs.3.85 lakh crores were pending now work on 90 per cent road project the work is going on.  The Green Express ways are being constructed on Delhi-Mumbai the time reducing the time upto 12 hours. Vehicles are being issued ‘fast-tag’ with advance payments of toll tax and such vehicles will not be required to stop at toll tax point.
