Niti Aayog head calls for making POSHAN Abhiyaan a success


New Delhi, NITI Aayog Vice chairman Rajiv Kumar on Wednesday appealed to stakeholders to maintain the POSHAN momentum, saying that only with collective efforts could the vision of POSHAN Abhiyaan be achieved. Speaking at the award ceremony organised by the Woman and Child Development ministry to frontline functionaries whose work had ensured success of ‘Poshan Maah’, he praised the efforts of frontline workers, saying that 'Poshan Maah would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of frontline workers across ministries. We are proud to have them as the foundation of this system. We have a long road ahead and the success of Poshan Maah has invigorated our resolve to achieve our goals.' On the occasion, he congratulated the winners and released the publication at the award ceremony here.Field functionaries from various states and Union Territories were felicitated at the Poshan Maah award ceremony for their exemplary work in propagating the message of adequate nutrition. Appealing to each stakeholder to maintain the POSHAN momentum, Dr Kumar stressed that only with 'collective effort can we achieve the vision of POSHAN Abhiyaan.' Booklets on Poshan Abhiyaan, the National Nutrition Mission which aims to bring down stunting of children in the age group of 0-6 years from 38.4 per cent to 25 per cent by 2022, about the tasks undertaken during Poshan Maah were also released. September, which is being observed as the National Nutrition Month to mark the country’s fight against malnutrition, was celebrated by the WCD ministry as the Rashtriya Poshan Maah across the country to address malnutrition challenges and sensitise people regarding the importance of holistic nutrition. To sustain the momentum and acknowledge the progress made by States in implementing POSHAN Abhiyaan, the Rashtriya PoshanMaah Awards were conferred on exemplary performers in the national capital on Wednesday. WCD Secretary Rakesh Srivastava also lauded the efforts of frontline workers, community groups, block and district officials, state departments and partnering ministries for having made POSHAN Abhiyaan into 'a Jan Andolan.” Reacting, NITI Member Dr VK Paul stated that the Poshan Maah had rebooted the POSHAN Abhiyaan. 'It has revitalised the conversation on health and nutrition. Asha and ANM workers, block and district level officers have been the true drivers of success of this programme.' “Unprecedented work has happened under our nation-wide campaign of POSHAN Abhiyaan. All the stakeholders have triggered a positive behaviour change among communities around Poshan,” added Dr Rajesh Kumar, WCD Joint Secretary.
