Opposition creates ruckus in assembly over drought like situation


Patna, The pre-lunch session of Bihar Assembly was today marred by ruckus created by members of RJD and Congress members demanding discussion on drought like situation and waiving of farmers` loans in the state. As soon as the House assembled for the day, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejaswi Yadav said that the state was gripped by drought due to lack of rainfall. He said that the government proved itself complete ineffective in making arrangements in advance to tackle the natural calamity. He said that according to the disaster management department`s guidelines, the diesel subsidy should had been distributed among farmers in May-June itself when the state recorded rainfall less than 19 per cent of total rain but the government woke up to the situation now. He said that Bihar was not getting a single drop from Bansagar dam despite agreement with the Madhya Pradesh government. Mr Yadav said that the situation had turned very grave due to drought in the state as farmers were compelled to commit suicide. He said that farmers` loans should be immediately waived and discussion should be held in the House for pondering over other means to deal with the situation. He said that the opposition members’ adjournment motion should be accepted to pave way for discussion on drought in the House.
