Opening the Budget session of Parliament President Mr Ramnath Kovind urged the members to build a political consensus on simultaneous elections to state Vidhan Sabhas and the Lok Sabha. It is easy to say such thing but near impossible to do or execute it. The V.P. Singh Government collapsed in eleven months when its supporting Bhartiya Janata Party withdraw its support to it and fresh Lok Sabha election were held. During S.V.D.- Janata Party and Congress regimes many state ministry lost the majority and fresh elections held. When Janata Party came to power it dismissed many Congress led state governments and in 1980 when Mrs Gandhi bounced back to power she dismissed many Janata Party state governments on political considerations.Under such federal constitution simultaneous elections idea is just an utopia. Mr Kovind highlighted the achievements of his Modi Government under various schemes. He said the bill on triple talaq is a gift to oppressed muslim women. His Government made it possible for muslim women to go on Haj pilgrimage alone by themselves without male escorts. He said the Government politics were guided by the principles that political democracy could not survive without social and economic democracy. The Government was committed to empowerments and not appeasement to minorities. The Government is also bringing a bill to give constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes. The endeavour of the Government towards strengthening economic and social democracy was helping redefine national life. These efforts were establishing a new social order in the country. The construction of toilets also contributing towards social justice. It is also protecting the dignity of women and fostering a feeling of social justice in them. The toilet campaign becoming widespread day by day. Under Ujjawala yojna over 3.30 crore women were provided L.P.G. connections to rescue them four smoky fuel chullahas. The "Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao" scheme has been extended to 640 districts. At the sometime the maternity benefit act now provides for 26 weeks. Paid leave in place of 12 weeks under Jandhan Yojna about 31 crore bank accounts had been opened for the poor. The percentage of bank accounts of women have gone up to 40 per cent from earlier 28 per cent. A record production of more than 275 million tonnes foodgrains, and about 300 million tones of horticulture produce has been achieved this year. The work on completing 99 irrigation projects that were held up decades ago are in progress. The neem coated urea had eliminated black marketing on the urea chemical fertilizer. More than 82 per cent villages mostly in far flung and unaccessible area had been connected by roads. The Union Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitely will present the last budget of five-year term of Modi Government on February 1. The Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said that the budget would be fulfilling the aspiration the people. The next Lok Sabha elections will be held in early 2019.
