New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the increased momentum of high-level contacts between India and China in all spheres, including in the areas of defence and military exchanges. He made the remarks when Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe met Prime Minister here. According to official sources, General Wei Fenghe is on a four-day visit to India -- the first after the Doklam stand-off in 2017. "Terming India-China relations as a factor of stability in the world, the Prime Minister said that maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas is indicative of the sensitivity and maturity with which India and China handle their differences, not allowing them to become disputes," a PMO release said. Prime Minister Modi also warmly recalled his recent meetings with President Xi Jinping in Wuhan, Qingdao and Johannesburg, the release said. Mr Modi and the Chinese President Xi Jinping had an informal summit earlier this year. During the just concluded Monsoon session of Parliament, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had told the Lok Sabha that the 73-day Doklam stand-off was resolved by 'diplomatic maturity' by both sides. General Wei Fenghe expected to have detailed deliberations with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman. Both the leaders had earlier met during Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in April. The ongoing is seen as a serious attempt by both sides to strengthen military ties. On August 15, Indian Army and Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) held a special meeting of border personnel at Nathu La in the Sikkim sector to boost mutual trust and promote peace.
