Maghar (Uttar Pradesh), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Kabir Academy here after paying tribute to the great saint of the country.
Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, PM visited the Samadhi Sthal and Majar of Kabir and offered chadar on both the places and also flower petals.
Later, the PM also visited the cave where Kabir used to do meditation. The PM walked around 100 meters to reach the cave.At the Samadhi sthal, PM was also honoured with a shawl and some books on Kabir.
The PM also laid the foundation of the Kabir Academy by pressing a button. UP government has earmarked Rs 24 crores for the Kabir Academy which will be equipped with several things including a library.
This will have an interpretation centre, public gallery, exhibition area that will trace the journey of Kabir from his childhood. The archaeology department has been roped in by the UP government to curate all memorabilia from Varanasi or elsewhere on Kabir to be included at his mausoleum.
The UP Tourism department has already initiated steps to promote Maghar as tourism spot where Hindus have built a temple in memory of Kabir, while the Muslims have constructed a mausoleum in his memory.
Mr Adityanath had proposed to include Kabir's shrine in tourism sector. Therefore, the government made an allocation of Rs 24 crore for Kabir circuit project.
