Religious fervour marks Basant Panchami celebrations


Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal Basant Panchami was celebrated in many areas of Bhopal on Monday with great religious fervour. Tableaus were made in different areas of city. Many schools and colleges at Rachna Nagar, Jawahar Chowk and other places prepared beautiful tableaus. Devotees gathered to celebrate Basant Panchami and made beautiful coloured tableaus. People worshipped and offered flowers to the goddess of wisdom Saraswati. Many institutions celebrated the festival with students and staff members. Students prayed for good knowledge and celebrated it with colours. They made colourful rangolis and wore traditional clothes that made this auspicious festival even glitterier. The day is very special for students and new learners. Students took early bath, observed the mass Saraswati Puja in schools and visited temples and listened to the Basanta Shrawran.Bihar Sanskritik Parishad BHEL Bhopal also organised a programme to celebrate Basant Panchami. Saraswati puja is festival of Hindus. It is celebrated on the fifth day of spring season as the name suggests Vasant panchami. Saraswati is known as goddess of art, knowledge and music. The four arms of goddess represent different aspects of human personality in learning: mind, alertness, intellect and ego. The goddess rides on a white goose that indicates one should have clear vision and knowledge to discriminate between good and evil. On this special occasion many people put on yellow coloured clothes which signifies ripening of fruits and crops especially mustard which blooms in north India.Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, learning, art, music and culture was worshipped on this occasion. The festival is taken as the symbol of an advent of the spring season as plants start sprouting, winter crops like barley and wheat plants and plum, pear and peach tress start yielding and many flowering plants start blooming with this. The festival is considered as the best day of starting something new in human life and make commitment to good causes.
