On the occasion of 5th River Festival at Bhandrabhan on the conjunction of River Tawa into Narmada the Chief Minister Mr.Shivraj Singh Chouhan has made spectacular announcement that 313 disappeared rivers in the state would be revived.
Not only in Madhya Pradesh but all over India in the long spell of time many small rivers during the days of droughts and drying were encroached and such water bodies of immense value to the society were vanished in encroachment.
In the matter of river cleaning Mr.Chouhan by his Namo Namami Narmade yatra even surpassed the Centre’s Ganga Action Plan. Now he is first in the country to revive all vanished rivers.
But he should take precaution that river Narmada should not be over exploited on it will go dry in patches. Even now there is not enough water in the Narmada to met the requirement of the Madhya Pradesh and other States.
Even Narmada linking with Kshipra river is not working successfully. There is huge power consumption to lift the water from Narmada and pour into Kshipra.
The Madhya Pradesh should make a programme of drazing the rivers and dams to remove silts on permanent basis. Water storage capacity in rivers and dams should be upto full levels.
Under MANREGA every village must have a talab of its own. To preserve and increase underground water tube well should be phased out.
