SC allows Sharad Yadav to stay in official residence till Jul 12

New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed former Janta Dal(United) chief Sharad Yadav to continue living in his official residence till matter pertaining to his disqualification from the Rajya Sabha is resolved. The court partially modified the Delhi High Court’s interim order after hearing a plea filed by Janta Dal(United) chief whip Ram Chandra challenging its order allowing Mr Yadav to use the official residence. The apex court said Mr Yadav will not be entitled to salary, allowances and other facilities like air and rail tickets. It also granted relief to the leader till July 12 saying he will not vacate his Tughlak road official residence till that date. A vacation bench headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan, asked the Delhi High Court to hear and expedite by July 12 his plea challenging his disqualification from the Rajya Sabha. Mr Chandra, the chief whip of Nitish Kumar-led JD(U), had yesterday moved the apex court to force Mr Yadav to vacate the official residence allotted to him. The party challenged the High Court order allowing him to use the residence until it decides Yadav’s plea against his disqualification from Rajya Sabha.
