Sensex ends higher on day 3 at 39,950.46 pts on firm global cues

Agencies, Mumbai Extending gains for the third straight session on Tuesday, the BSE Sensex rose by 165.94 points to end strong at 39,950.46 on firm global cues. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too increased by 42.90 points to 11,965.40. The Sensex extended overnight gains today as it opened strong at 39,900.45 in early trade and then osciallated between 40,066.31 and 39,760.02 points, respectively, during the day before closing in green at 39,950.46, up by 165.94 points against its last close.  With this, the Sensex has gained 420.74 points in last three sessions. The Nifty touched day's high and low at 12,000.35 and 11,904.35 points, respectively. The persistent buying in sectoral indices like Metal, Bankex, Telecom, Finance, Industrials and Health Care pushed the Sensex up for another day today, along with scrips of Tata Motors DVR, Tata Motors, ONGC, Yes Bank and IndusInd Bank. However, Capital Goods and FMCG slipped that capped its further gains, brokers informed. Similarly, scrips of Sun Pharma, M&M, L&T and Coal India tumbled during the day. The broader markets ended strong, as the S&P BSE Midcap index surged 0.79 per cent and the Small-Cap by 0.24 pc, respectively. The market breadth was inclined towards the sellers, as 1,157 shares advanced while 1,394 declined and 159 were unchanged on BSE. Overseas, European stocks were trading higher, while Asian shares ended higher. Sentiment in global stock markets was upbeat after the United States suspended its proposed tariffs on Mexican imports. US President Donald Trump is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G-20 Summit scheduled to be held on June 28-29 in Osaka, Japan. Mr Trump has reportedly threatened to impose tariffs on further USD 300 billion of Chinese goods if President Xi does not attend the G-20 meet.
