Sudharshan Chakra corps plans celebrations on Army Day


Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal The Sudarshan Chakra Corps is organising an evening dedicated to the gallant soldiers of Madhya Pradesh and the citizens of Bhopal at Prerna Stambh in the premises of Yodhasthal on Airport Road on 15 January 2018. An army Pipes and drum band and Jazz band will be playing martial tunes and singing patriotic songs respectively including a medley. A musical bonanza by children of Army Public School and taekwondo display by army personnel will be other highlights of the event which is being organised from 4:00 to 5:00PM. Entry is free of charge for all visitors and refreshments are also being catered at Yodhasthal. Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year, in recognition of Lieutenant General (later Field Marshal) K.M Cariappa’s taking over as the first Command-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949. The day is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows in New Delhi as well as in all Headquarters. Army Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and the people living in it.
