Sushma flays Pak, both foreign ministers avoid each other

9/28/2018

New York, In the wake of stalled talks after acrimonious exchange of words, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi avoided meeting each other at the SAARC ministerial meeting here. After making her statement on late Thursday evening, in which she mentioned about terror and tried to blame Pakistan, Ms Swaraj left the venue and did not wait for Mr Qureshi's turn to make his statement. Addressing the meet, Ms Swaraj also called members states to bring about trade reforms to strengthen connectivity. "The world is moving ahead to become more integrated and connected where movement of goods and people is becoming easier with each passing day. SAARC needs to deliver on its commitments or risk being left behind," she said. She said regional cooperation in South Asia is not possible without an environment of peace. "Terrorism remains the single largest threat to peace and stability in our region. It is necessary that we eliminate the scourge of terrorism in all its forms, without any discrimination, and end the ecosystem of its support," she said.
