Sweat and courage: Women run in midnight to break stereotype


New Delhi, Giving a message that women are "courageous" and can "go out in the dark", more than 200 odd women, from all walks of life, hit the streets of the National Capital on Sunday midnight, to participate in a five-km run.The short run, titled "5km Fearless Run", was flagged off by Joint Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary. Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma, who was also present said, "the run was aimed to reclaim the public space and break the gender construct that women can not get out after dark.' On the occasion, Delhi Police also spoke about Himmat Plus mobile application and made them aware of safety initiatives taken by the police.Female police personnel too participated in the event.The run was organised by Delhi Police and an NGO--United Sisters Foundation.
