Lucknow, At least 19 people were killed and over 32 injured in a thunderstorm that struct the western parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday night.
Officials confirmed on Saturday that six people have died in Moradabad, five in Etah, three in Sambhal, two each in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar along with one in Amroha.
Among the injured highest were reported from Moradabad where 10 people are admitted to the hospital followed by seven in Etah, six in Amroha, three in Muzaffarnagar and two each in Sambhal and Baghpat.
Sources said most of the deaths were due to collapsing of houses and trees, during the thunderstorm which hit the state with a wind speed of 80 kmph.The storm also disrupted rail, road and air services,with power supply snapped in several cities and villages.
Meanwhile, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the concerned districts to step up relief measures for the affected people.UP Government had announced an ex gratia payment of Rs four lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs one lakh for the injured.
