Universties to prepare their own Academic Calendar: Governor Smt. Patel


Extention of Distant Education is biggest need of hour: Loksabha Speaker Smt. Mahajan 

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal The Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel said that all the universities of the state will prepare an academic calendar from next academic session at their own level to conduct classes properly, to hold examinations on time and declaration of results. Necessary directives have already been issued to all the vice-chancellors in this direction. A meeting of all the vice chancellors has been convened at Bhopal on April 6 to prepare the academic calendar. Smt. Patel mentioned that universities must follow the time bound implementation of the academic calendar. Universities should conduct classes properly, must ensure examinations in transparent manner and declare results on time. CCTV cameras should be installed in all the examination centers to hold examinations in transparent manner and video recording of interview/viva voce should be carried out during the examinations. She gave instructions to give admissions in colleges on merit basis, changes in curriculum according to the need and to start new courses according to the time. The Governor further stated that compliance of time and discipline is must for quality reforms in education system. She said that research should also be conducted on various schemes, programmes and policies being implemented by the government. It will help assessing implementation of schemes beside changes in people’s life. In addition to this, it will facilitate receiving suggestions as regard to the improvement in the schemes. She laid emphasis on the need to link youth with sanitation and environment conservation activities. Moreover, Smt. Patel mentioned that we have to realise ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat’ vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Universities must make efforts at their own level in this connection. She mentioned that students possess other talents too. Inclination towards sports is growing rapidly among the girls. The Governor said that the sports persons of the surrounding areas will get sports facilities after the completion of athletic track at the university. Loksabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan said that Indore is a big education hub. It has many prestigious educational institutions like I.I.T. and I.I.M. ‘A Grade awarded to Devi Ahilya University displays good education quality. She mentioned that students in large number come from other part of the country to pursue study here. Hence, it has become necessary now to make the distant education effective and to undertake its wide publicity. Smt. Mahajan further stated that wide extension of distant education should be made in schools also. She stressed on the need to develop culture among the students besides education. Loksabha Speaker while urging the students said that they must imbibe good culture. Besides education, they should possess sharp brains and prove themselves. Moreover, she stated that we have to use education and knowledge to make the society and country strong. Share knowledge, it is valuable asset. It is such an asset, which increases when you share. No thief can steal it. The Governor and Loksabha Speaker honoured students with degrees, gold and silver medals in the programme. Before the programme, Smt. Patel and Smt. Mahajan dedicated newly constructed synthetic athletic track and inaugurated video conferencing center costing Rs. 7 crore in the university complex. The Governor Smt. Patel talked to Professor Shailesh Gandhi of I.I.M.–Ahmedabad and Prof. Abhishek Mishra of I.I.M.-Indore through video conferencing. Former Vice Chancellor of the university Ashutosh Mishra, Registrar Ajay Verma, Members of working Council, Public Representatives, prominent citizens and students were present in the programme.
