‘US were going to war with North Korea’, says Trump

10/16/2018

Washington, United States President Donald Trump said that America would have gone to war with North Korea if it weren’t for his timely actions. In an interview to American TV journalist Lesley Stahl, Donald Trump said, “We were going to war with North Korea. I sat with President Obama (to sort out the matter).” Referring to the infamous US-North Korea tension over nuclear weapons that came to an end after both the parties signed a joint statement, agreeing to security guarantees for North Korea, new peaceful relations, reaffirmation of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, recovery of soldier’s remains, and follow up negotiations between high-level officials. On Lesley’s asking if they were really going to war, President replied, “We were gonna. I think we would have ended up in war. But now we don’t hear it. He (Kim Jong-un) doesn’t want to go to war, neither do we.” “He understands denuclearization and he has agreed to it. See, no missiles,” he further added. “So did Kim ask US to ease the sanctions on its nuclear weapon program?” asked Lesley. Drawing comparison from Obama administration, Trump replied, “No I’m not doing it. I have not eased the sanctions.” Reminding of Kim Jong-un’s past brutalities, 76-year-old journalist asked Trump if he really loves the man who presides over a cruel kingdom of repression, gulags, starvation, had his half-brother assassinated, slave labor, public executions. The question also came in the reference of Trump’s speech at a rally in West Virginia in September, “And then we fell in love, okay. No really. He wrote me beautiful letters. And they're great letters. We fell in love.” “I get along with him really well. I have a good energy with him. I have a good chemistry with him. Look at the horrible threats that were made. No more threats. No more threats”, he replied. Labelling it as a figure of speech earlier, he later added, “Let it be an embrace. Let it be whatever it is to get the job done.” “In the meantime, they haven't tested a missile. They haven't tested a rocket. They definitely haven't done a nuclear test because you know about them real fast. It sort of moves the earth. And we have a relationship now.” President said. “I trust him. But we will see what happens.”
