Wheat Stocks Damaged


Despite Government claims of adequate arrangement for wheat procurement on minimum support price in a first unseasonal rains in mid-April quintals of wheat stock at the purchasing centre and standing crop in field badly damaged. When every thing is ready such natural calamity rain the farmers with deep stock to them. In Bhopal district 900 quintal of wheat was damaged in rains. Like cricket match the second rains washed off standing crops in thousands of hectare of land in northern India. After the unseasonal and suddenly very heavy snowfall in Kashmir and Himachal the weather office well in time warned the Centre and State Governments of unseasonal rains right from Kashmir to Karnataka in a particular belt covering many states. It is quite evidents it has caused deep distress to farmers and Government and purchasing centres. But it is also clear the Government failed to take timely remedical actions despite getting advance information from the weather office of coming unseasonal rains. The April rain, appear like August rains in its ferocity. In Utter Pradesh severe storms hit the Agra. In Moradabad and Amroha the rains were so heavy downpour that it caused floods in field and standing crops submerged. The wheat crop is total loss here. In Punjab the situation is likewise very bad for cultivators. In Madhya Pradesh heavy rains with storms winds lashed Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Shivpuri and Sheopur. The wind speed was about 70 kilometer per hour in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Shajapur, Mandla, Damoh, Gwalior. The highest rainfall of 13mm was recorded in Indore region. In the Ashok Nagar, Shivpuri and Tikamgarh hail storm also damaged the crops. The rains lashed almost entare Madya Pradesh covering Satna, Rewa, Nimar. In Morena the pantoon bridge on Chambal river connecting Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh washed away in flush flood. The river in vindhya region, All the district of the region and having overcast cloud and occasional rains. The Tikamgarh received the heavy rain with strong winds. In Rajashtan heavy rains with hail storm occurred in four district of Bharatpur,Dhalpura, Bhilwara and Udaipur where 21 persons were died. 44 persons lost life in these rains.
