Quota movement: Police, protesters clash in SAU, B’desh, 10 inured

Dhaka, (UNI) At least 10 students were injured in a clash between police and students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) on Thursday, according to Dhaka Tribune.

The clash started when SAU students were protesting quota reform and cops blocked their march.

The students started their protest march in front of the university’s main library at 1600 hours in late afternoon, media reports said.

Ten students suffered injury as the police used a baton charge to break through the students’ attempt to get past the barricade.

As of the time of writing, students were blocking the Mirpur-Farmgate road and chanting anti-quota slogans.

One of the protesting students said, “We are conducting a peaceful movement. Our protest is not against the government. Yet, the police have baton-charged us. We will not leave the streets until our demands are met. Our single demand is to reform the discriminatory quota system to make it five per cent.”
