New Delhi, July 30 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday spoke to Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and sought information about the ongoing rescue operations following the landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district in which at least 10 people have died.
The Defence Minister’s office said that Singh asked General Dwivedi to provide all possible Army assistance in the rescue operation.
The Army said that upon receiving a request for help from the state government, it sent about 250 soldiers to assist in the rescue operation.
Amid heavy rains, landslides occurred at two places in Wayanad early Tuesday, in which at least 10 people, including two children, died and many others are feared trapped under the debris.
Officials said that many houses were completely or partially damaged in the landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmaala in Vellarimaala village of Meppadi panchayat.
