Risk of accidents averted on only few Bhopal roads

  • Public decided whose work is the best
  • Many roads repaired and many are still in potholes

Kavita Singh Rathore, Bhopal
The heavy rains in Bhopal this year have exposed both the PWD and the Municipal Corporation working reality. Because, after the rains in this season, many more potholes have started appearing on the roads. Which have been the cause of accidents every day. In about 2 to 3 months, the roads have completely turned into potholes.

After this, only these dilapidated roads started appearing in the newspaper headlines. However, the effect of all this news was that both the Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department (PWD) became active regarding the road and both the departments started the work of road repair. The roads have been repaired at many places, while some are yet to be repaired. The Municipal Corporation has been doing patchwork since last month, while the PWD started work after a long time.

However, the work of PWD is considered to be permanent and the work of Municipal Corporation is considered to be incomplete. The Municipal Corporation had filled the potholes by putting gravel. Whereas the work done by PWD was done with full pomp and show by laying asphalt and blocks. Due to which this work became permanent for a long time.

Now the danger of accidents on these roads has been completely averted. Whereas, in the work done by the Nagar Nigam, the potholes were closed by putting Zeera gravel which came out after two rains and then started causing accidents. During this patchwork, the work done by both the departments is being compared.

This comparison has been done through the criticism and appreciation of the public. On the basis of the conversation with the public by the reporter, it has been decided whose work is the best. If we talk only about MP Nagar, then there are roads of both the departments here. Out of which the road on Chetak Bridge is of PWD and around Vishal Mart is of Nagar Nigam. The work done on Chetak has been done as if there were never any potholes here. Which is the work of PWD, but the area around Vishal belongs to Nagar Nigam and potholes have started appearing here again.

PWD says

In a recent meeting with Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh, PWD SE Yogendra Singh has said that, out of 575 of our roads, only 35.35 km are in bad condition. This is less than 10 percent. Their first phase potholes have also been filled. The roads that were noted in the survey conducted in August will be repaired in September. Asphalting will be done in October. A total of 99 complaints were received on Lokpath App, which have been rectified.

Municipal Corporation says

In the meeting with Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh, the officer from the Municipal Corporation has said that there are 2020 km of main roads under the corporation. At the same time, by adding the roads of colonies and streets, it reaches over 3800 km. Out of these, 15 to 20 percent i.e. about 500 km of roads are in bad condition.

There are still some potholes on Chetak bridge, but the ones that are filled up look like they never existed. Whereas the patchwork around Vishal Mega Mart is still intact.

What do we care whose road it is and whose it is not, but the road should be good. If the road on Chetak Bridge is repaired, it becomes first class, but other roads in MP Nagar have turned into potholes again.

I pass through MP Nagar every day. A few days ago, when I saw it, the potholes on the road were filled up, but after a few days they appeared  again. Whereas, the potholes on Chetak Bridge have disappeared as if they were never there.
