New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) Rajya Sabha member and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary was on Sunday evening inducted into the Union Council of Ministers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A third generation politician, Jayant Chaudhary is the grandson of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and son of Chaudhary Ajit Singh, who served as Union Minister in different governments.
Jayant started his political career in 2009 when he contested the Lok Sabha polls from Mathura seat in Uttar Pradesh and won. Initially Jayant’s party forged an alliance with Samajwadi Party (SP) and contested the election.
In 2022 his party won 11 seats in assembly elections. In 2022 he was elected to the Rajya Sabha with the support of SP. However, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he snapped his ties with the SP and decided to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
His political switchover happened days after Chaudhary Charan Singh was posthumously honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in the country, in February this year.
Jayant studied at Delhi University and completed a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics
