Rohit suffers injury scare ahead of Boxing Day Test

Melbourne, Dec 22 (UNI) Indian captain Rohit Sharma provided a moment of concern during a practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday after being struck on the knee by a delivery from throwdown specialist Daya.

However, the injury has been deemed minor, and the skipper is confirmed to lead the side in the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

The incident occurred as Rohit was batting in the nets. The team’s physio quickly attended to the captain, icing his left knee to manage any swelling. Addressing media queries after the session, pacer Akash Deep allayed fears about Rohit’s availability.

“Injuries like these are part of practice. Rohit is fine and will play the Melbourne Test. There is no reason for concern,” Deep assured reporters.

Deep, who recently made his Test debut, has shown glimpses of his potential, both with the ball and the bat, in the series. During the Gabba Test, he contributed a critical lower-order partnership with Jasprit Bumrah and later took three key wickets across both innings.

India, who are locked 1-1 with Australia in the ongoing Test series, will look to regroup and deliver a strong performance in the crucial Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
