RS adjourned as Opposition-ruling party showdown continues

New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) Amid massive showdown between the Opposition and ruling party members, the Rajya Sabha was on Thursday adjourned till 2 PM within about half an hour of commencing its proceedings.

The Upper House failed to take up scheduled business yet again as members from the Opposition and Treasury benches clashed over the issues of no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and alleged relationship between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and US investor George Soros.

Leader of the House and BJP leader JP Nadda questioned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s move to hold a press conference yesterday (December 11, 2024) and criticise House Chairman Dhankhar.

Nadda yet again raised the issue of alleged relationship between Sonia Gandhi and George Soros.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital on Wednesday, Kharge had alleged that Rajya Sabha Chairman was working as a government spokesperson.

The Opposition INDIA bloc has already given notice for a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar alleging ‘partisan’ approach while running the House.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Thursday gave notice in Rajya Sabha under rule 267 demanding discussion on alleged derogatory and divisive statements made by a sitting judge of Allahabad High Court. The request was, however, declined by the Chairman.
