Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum hosted an engaging cultural activity, Sambhavana, centered around dance, music, and instrumental performances. The event featured captivating performances like the Dhandhal Dance by Gopal Koraku and his troupe from the Koraku tribe, Ahirai Dance by Sachin Chaudhary and his group from Jabalpur, and Nimadi folk songs by Sheetal Atre and her team from Indore.
The Dhandhal Dance, performed by Gopal Koraku and his troupe, is a popular tribal dance of the Koraku community, typically performed during the Chaitra-Vaishakh nights. The dance is based on intricate hand gestures, with dancers forming concentric circles and engaging in rhythmic stick clashes, symbolizing the blooming of flower petals. The beats of the dholak and timki accompany the dancers, and the pace gradually builds to an energetic climax.
The Ahirai Dance, performed by Sachin Chaudhary and his troupe, is a male-dominated dance of the Ahir community, performed during the festival of Govardhan Puja. Dancers sing verses and perform synchronized steps, celebrating tradition and valor.
Sheetal Atre and her team presented beautiful Nimadi folk songs, enchanting the audience with tunes like “Mhara Ghar Aaya Gajanan” and “Ranu Bai Ka Angana”.
Every Sunday at 2 PM, the Tribal Museum offers a unique opportunity to witness the vibrant art forms of Madhya Pradesh’s tribal communities and those from other states.
