New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed AAP leader Somnath Bharti’s plea seeking transfer of a case pending in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh to New Delhi after he allegedly made derogatory remarks on the condition of hospitals and schools in the state.
The case is pending before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sultanpur.
A bench comprising Justice M M Sundresh and Justice Aravind Kumar declined Bharti’s plea to transfer the case to Delhi but allowed him to request the trial court to appear through video conferencing.
Earlier on April 3, 2023, the Apex Court had stayed the proceedings before the Sultanpur Court against Bharti.
Two cases were registered against Bharti for making derogatory remarks about the condition of hospitals and schools in Uttar Pradesh.
The remarks were made while speaking to the press in Amethi on January 10, 2021.
Thereafter a resident, Somnath Sahu filed an FIR against Bharti at the Jagdishpur police station of Amethi.
Another complaint was filed against Bharti in Rae Bareli over his alleged derogatory remarks.
