SC offers relief to Army officer who lost leg in 1971 war

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Central government to pay interest on disability pension to a retired Army officer who lost his right leg in the 1971 war with Pakistan.

The Centre said the appellant was not entitled to grant of disability pension before January 1, 2016, but it did not challenge a tribunal’s order in the officer’s as he had sustained injuries in war against Pakistan.

The Court said that the entitlement of the appellant is not challenged by the respondents. The appellant ought to have been granted interest of 6% per annum on the differential amount for three years.
