New Delhi, April 21 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday noted that the investigation against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, in a case involving controversial comments on a YouTube show, is complete. The court said it would hear his plea seeking the return of his passport on April 28.
A bench comprising justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh took note of submissions by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared for the police of Assam and Maharashtra.
Mehta informed the court that while the investigation in the Guwahati FIR is ongoing—with the statement of one co-accused still to be recorded—the probe in the Mumbai FIR stands complete, though the chargesheet is yet to be filed.
Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, appearing for Allahbadia, highlighted that the petitioner has cooperated fully with the investigation and deposited his passport with the Thane Cyber Police in compliance with the court’s February 18 order, which had also granted him protection from arrest in multiple FIRs.
Justice Kant remarked that the court would proceed to examine the matter next week, considering the investigation as complete in relation to the petitioner, and will evaluate whether his passport can now be released.
The bench also sought an update regarding co-accused who are reportedly not cooperating, adding that this would factor into the decision.
Referring to media reports suggesting guilt, Chandrachud expressed concern over public narratives being shaped outside the court. Justice Kant emphasized, “It is to be decided by the court.”
The court also addressed a plea by an applicant seeking to be impleaded, noting disturbing allegations. The bench advised the applicant to file a writ petition, as it would be a more effective remedy, and requested any video clips and transcripts to be submitted for consideration.
The court had earlier allowed Allahbadia to resume “The Ranveer Show” podcast on March 3, with the condition that it maintains morality and decency, making it suitable for all age groups.
The matter has been posted for April 28, with the court continuing its interim protection to Allahbadia until then.
Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, was booked for his comments on parents and sex on comic Samay Raina’s YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent.’
