SC transfers pending petitions challenging CLAT 2025 results to Delhi High Court

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) In a significant move, the Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the transfer of all pending petitions related to the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 for undergraduate courses to the Delhi High Court.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, and Justice KV Viswanathan passed the directive to ensure uniformity and avoid conflicting verdicts across High Courts.

“List before Delhi High Court on March 3. Within seven days of this order, the registrar of each High Court should send the papers (of the concerned pending petitions) to the Delhi High Court,” the apex court directed.

The decision followed a plea by the NLU Consortium seeking a unified hearing for the CLAT-related disputes, currently pending in the High Courts of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.

On December 20, the Delhi High Court’s single-judge bench led by Justice Jyoti Singh partially allowed a plea filed by a 17-year-old CLAT candidate, Aditya.

The petitioner alleged errors in the exam paper for admissions to National Law Universities (NLUs).

Justice Singh identified clear errors in two out of five flagged questions, directing the Consortium to revise the results accordingly.

This decision was challenged before the Division Bench by both the NLU Consortium and Aditya. While the Consortium argued that the single-judge had overstepped by interfering with expert-decided answers, Aditya sought corrections for three additional questions, contending they contained blatant errors.

The issue escalated further when the Consortium moved the Supreme Court, citing the need to consolidate the petitions under one High Court to prevent contradictory judgments.

The controversy also extends to the CLAT PG exam, where disputes over incorrect answer keys are currently being contested before the Madhya Pradesh and Bombay High Courts.
