Scindia meets Mittal, Ambani and Vodafone CEO to discuss roadmap for telecom sector

New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday met telecom service providers to seek their views on fostering the growth of the telecom sector and resolving key issues, if any, along with the timelines.

This is the first meeting ever since the private telecom operators increased mobile tariffs on July 3, a move that was opposed vehemently by the opposition party Congress.

The Minister took to the social networking site ‘X’ and said “Had a very productive meeting with the Advisory Committee of Telecommunication Service Providers. Discussed upon different aspects concerning the sector including futuristic and innovative areas of growth.

“We are committed to work together to build an ‘inclusive and connected Bharat,” Scindia said.

Bharti Airtel founder and Chairman Sunil Mittal, Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani and Vodafone Idea CEO Akshaya Moondra among others were present in the meeting.

According to sources several issues including arrears relating to AGR payments and allocation of spectrum for satellite services were discussed. They said that both Bharti and Jio asked the minister to consider early provisional allocation of satellite spectrum so that services are rolled out without further delays.
