Senior advocate Narender Mann named special prosecutor in Tahawwur Rana case

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The Centre has appointed senior advocate Narender Mann as special public prosecutor to assist the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the court trial of Tahawwur Rana, prime accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case.

Tahawwur Rana is being flown to India from the US on board a special aircraft.

The NIA is going to seek his custody for interrogation and prosecution.

Notification issued by the Centre stated that “Narender Mann will be a special prosecutor for conducting trial and other matters related to NIA case. He will serve for a period of three years from the date of publication of this notification or till the completion of trial of the said case, whichever is earlier”.

After serving 14 years prison term in the US, Rana was re-arrested in 2020 following India’s extradition request.

He faces charges ranging from conspiracy to terrorism and murder. He is expected to be lodged either in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail or Delhi’s Tihar prison.

Heavy security deployment has been made in the two high-security jails.
