Sensex down 388.40 pts

Mumbai, Aug 17 (UNI) Snapping a winning streak of last two sessions, the BSE sensex on Thursday dropped 388.40 pts to settle at 65,151.02 as selling was seen in Utilities, Power and Energy stocks tracking weakness in Asian peers on worries over China’s economy.

Asian markets declined, dragged by concerns over China’s economy in the wake of subdued data over the last few sessions.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 99.75 pts at 19,365.25 pts.

The Sensex opened on a weak note at 65,503.85, easing 36pts. During the day it was slid 484 pts at 65,046.10 pts,days low, before closing at 65,151.02, down 388.40 pts from its previous close.

The stocks that dragged the market were, Utilities by 1.03 pc, FMCG by , Energy by 0.79 pc, Power by 0.73 pc.

The losers were ITC by 2.04 pc to by 440.85, Powergrid by 1.67 pc to Rs 243.65, L& T by 1.40 pc to be 2652.80, Nestle India Ltd Ltd 1.22 pc to Rs 21,684.85 and Reliance Industries by 1.18 pc to be 2537.75.

The gainers were Titan by 2.10 pc to Rs 3072.40, SBI by 1.19 pc to be 572.10, Bajaj finance by 0.53 pc to Rs 1477.15 and Tech Mahindra by 0.43 pc to Rs 1232.50.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.06 pc and Small Cap by 0.19 pc.

In 30 scrips, 7 advanced, 22 declined while one remained unchanged.
