Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI) Erasing gains, the BSE Sensex on Thursday dropped 836.34 pts to close at 79,541.79 as selling was seen across the board despite positive global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 284.70 pts at 24,199.35.
The Nifty registered days high and low at 24,503.35 and 24,179.05 pts respectively.
The Sensex opened in green at 80,563.42, up 185 pts, which was the day’s high figure, later it was tanked 959 pts at 79,419.34, a day low, before closing at 79,541.79, sliding 836.34 pts from its previous close.
The stocks that dragged the market were Metal by 2.54 pc, Utilities by 1.82 pc, Realty by 1.45 pc and Power by 1.42 pc.
The Mid-cap fell by 0.67 pc and the Small-cap by 0.44 pc.
In 30 scrips, 2 advanced, while 28 declined.
The losers were Tata Motors by 2.36 pc to Rs 819.90, Tech Mahindra by 2.21 pc to Rs 1656, JSW Steel by 1.99 pc to Rs 988.75 and Sun Pharma by 1.96 pc to Rs 1791.50.
The gainers were SBI by 0.53 pc to Rs 859.25 and TCS by 0.26 pc to Rs 4149.40.
