Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) The equity market crashed on Monday as the BSE Sensex slumped 2226.79 pts to settle at 73,137.90 amid global tariff tension and growing recession concerns in the US.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 742.85 pts at 22,161.60.
The day opened on a negative note at 71,449.94, falling 3915 pts. During the day it was tumbled down 3939 pts at 71,425.01, the day’s low, before closing at 73,137.90, slumping 2226.79 pts from its previous close.
The Nifty registered a day’s high at 22,254 and low at 21,743.65 pts.
Stocks that were badly hit were metals by 6.22 pc, followed by realty by 5.69 pc, commodities by 4.68 pc, capital goods by 4.34 pc and consumer discretionary goods and services by 3.79 pc.
The mid cap declined by 3.46 pc and the small cap by 4.13 pc.
The losers were Tata Steel by 7.73 pc, L&T by 5.78 pc, Tata Motors by 5.54 pc, Kotak Bank by 4.33 pc and M&M by 4.11 pc.
