Mumbai, Nov 21 (UNI) The equity market remained under pressure on Thursday too, as the BSE Sensex tanked 422.59 pts to settle at 77,155.79 on weak global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 168.60 pts at 23,349.90.
The Adani Ports stock crashed more than 13 pc following bribery charges against chairman Gautam Adani and other group executives in US.
The BSE Sensex opened in the green at 77,711.11, up 133 pts and it was the day’s high. Later, it nosedived 776 pts at 76,802 days low, before closing at 77,155.79, sliding 422.59 pts from its previous close.
The Nifty registered the day’s high and low at 23,507.30 pts and 23,263.15 pts respectively.
The stocks that tumbled down were BSE services by 4.14 pc, Utilities by 3.16 pc, FMCG by 1.33 pc and Commodities by 1.55 pc.
The Mid cap declined 0.37 pc and Small cap by 0.67 pc.
In 30 scrips, 10 advanced while 20 declined.
The losers were Adani Ports by 13.53 pc to Rs 1114.70, SBI by 2.64 pc to Rs 780.85, NTPC by 2.49 pc to Rs 357, Asian paints by 2.18 pc to Rs 2429 and ITC by 2.18 pc to Rs 457.15.
The gainers were Powergrid by 3.21 pc to Rs 325.15, Ultracemco 1.41 pc to Rs 10,926, HCL Technology by 0.68 pc to Rs 1832.50 and Axis Bank by 0.63 pc to Rs 1142.15.
